Russ grew up on the Buzzell Farm in North Brookfield, milking cows, and all the other requirements of a working farm, but art was his first love. A close family friend and artist, nurtured his interest and developed his skill as a young child. He went on to study at the Boston School of Practical Art. From there, he worked for the Audubon Society, illustrating their publications, also illustrating books and magazines, including Animals Nobody Loves, Wisconsin Sportsman, and Gray's Sporting Journal. His artwork includes the historical rendition of Wheeler’s Surprise, wildlife, and numerous rural farm scenes, such as Sunday Afternoon on the Buzzell Farm. Russ now works out of his Buck Hill Studio in North Brookfield, where you can view and purchase original art in oils, scratchboard, watercolor, and pen and ink with limited edition numbered prints and greeting cards also available.
